Things to keep in mind when buying
Make sure pulley is in good shape. Make sure the AMPS on donor vehicle are the same or greater. Make sure the brackets are the same. If possible get a picture of what the donor alternator looks like and compare.
Installation Tips
Disconnect the battery cable. Inspect your fan belt while you’ve got the alternator off. Also check the fan belt tensioner. This is a good time to replace those if needed.

No real maintenance here other than what might be noted in your owners manual.
